These cylinder-shaped sintered burs have precisely graded diamonds embedded in metal matrix through the entire head to carve consistently over a long life.

USAGE

These flat end cylinder and round end cylinder shape SUVA Shards are the highest-performing diamond carving burs for lapidary, jewelling, engraving, and sculpting in gemstones, opals, glass, metal, ceramic, porcelain and hard wood. Sintered carving burs are used in a rotary tool such as a Dremel or Foredom flexible shaft in a high speed handpiece or micro motor, or in a fixed-point lathe or pendant drill. They are the best tool available for carving and grinding stone in Lapidary and jewellery making. Use larger coarse-grit sintered burrs for pre-forming, shaping, and grinding, and work your way up to finer grits and smaller heads for carving small details or precise gemstone cuttings. Follow up by sanding with Diamond Pacific Nova Points and polishing with SUVA's exclusive hardwood polishing burs charged with standard diamond paste, or felt burs loaded with your favorite lapidary polish.

Sintered burs are a priority gemstone carver's investment providing consistent performance for the long life of the bur. To maximize durability and cutting action, occasionally maintain and re-shape your valuable sintered bur collection with the companion Diamond Re-Shaping Block or sharpening stones, using water and very light pressure to expose new sharpened diamond layers. Lubricate during carving with clean water or further extend the life of your diamond burs with the optional use of 412 Slick Lube diamond tool lubricant. Use these burs at 8000 RPM up to a maximum speed of 25,000 RPM depending on head size and material hardness, use lower speeds for larger burs and ALWAYS wear proper eye and hand protection.

SPECIFICATIONS

These flat head cylinder and round nose cylinder sintered burs are constructed with a diamond head mounted on a 3/32 in (2.35 mm) wide steel mandrel shank measuring 35-45 mm in length excluding the diamond portion. Shafts conveniently fits Foredom, Dremel with 3/32 in collet, or any flex shaft handpiece that accept 3/32 in diameter shanks. Sizes are stated in approximate sintered head width, widest point x head height with a tolerance of ±~12%. See below for other available sintered bur shapes.

Burs are color-coded for easy grit identification:

  • Super-coarse (black, 70/80 mesh ISO 544) good for texturing on all kinds of stones and metals. Please note these super-coarse burs are VERY aggressive for bulk removal and rapid pre-forming and are not suitable for detail work.
  • Coarse (green, 100/120 mesh ISO 534) used for aggressive cutting on quartz materials, porcelain, and alloys.
  • Medium (blue, 140/170 mesh ISO 524) used for multi-purpose cutting of metals, stones, porcelain and enameling.
  • Fine (red, 325 mesh ISO 514) used for smooth aggressive final shaping, pre-polishing, and metals trimming.
  • Extra-fine (yellow, 600 mesh ISO 504) used for fine finish grinding as pre-polish
