Phenolic Carving Burs
Phenolic burs are an ideal tool for finishing your hard gemstone carving projects. Constructed from resin-soaked linen cloth layers formed into popular shapes for gemstone carving, the surface texture of these burs readily impregnates with diamond grit and extends the lifespan of your polishing compound.
Phenol burs embedded with diamond paste are perfect for working with fire agate, ruby, sapphire, garnet, and jade carvings. The diamond compound becomes more deeply embedded within the bur over time and with use, resulting in a highly-concentrated diamond bur that will provide long life with occasional re-charging of diamond compound.
Follow after initial grinding and shaping with sintered carving burs and sanding with Diamond Pacific Nova Points. Use in your Foredom or Dremel rotary flex-shaft tool with a collet suitable for a 1/8" (3mm) shank. Burs are approximately 1-3/8" long.
You can use any diamond grit combination, with a general purpose recommendation of a 325-1200-50000 sequence for most use cases. Be sure to use a separate bur for each diamond paste grit to avoid cross-contamination. You must use a lubricant compatible with your paste, such as Microsol silicone lubricant. Do not use water unless specifically noted as compatible with your diamond paste.
Please note these burs have been discontinued by Diamond Pacific and SUVA has the remaining stock in-house. When supplies are exhausted they cannot be restocked. Also consider SUVA's exclusive hardwood polishing burs.
